I was very excited this morning when I wandered out onto the balcony, and saw this!!

I have always loved tulips, and this year I thought I’d try to grow some for the first time. And, it seems I have been successful! I was so excited that I ran inside and got Nick out of bed, saying I had to show him something… and when he saw it he said “yes, it’s lovely, I saw it yesterday!”. Next time he’ll know to tell me when a tulip blossoms
I’m keeping my eye on my other bulbs now - I’ve planted a number of different things in random pots, wherever there was some spare space around another plant. I can’t wait for my other tulips to flower, not to mention the daffodils, irises, and others. Something so bright and lovely is a wonderful surprise

Hi all!
Here is the latest in my photograph series. I love the backdrop of the blue sky, highlighting the silver/grey trunk and branches of this tree. And the time of day, as the sun was setting, gives it a lovely light/shadow contrast…

Enjoy
Nick’s coming home this weekend - finally!!! So that, combined with a big family dinner tomorrow (which will take half a day to prepare - it is a traditional American roast meal, after all) and my general exhaustion after a mammoth week of work, will probably mean my posts will be a tad light on the ground for the next little while.
I’m still waiting in anticipation for my mushrooms to appear… among other things! A garden update is definitely on the cards.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Here is the next instalment in my ‘Trees of the Outback’ series of photographs.
The only unfortunate thing in this photo are the power-lines… but I like it so much I can overlook that

This was taken in Millmerran - I found a lot of excellent subjects for this series out there!

Thanks all for your complements on my fire photos. I’ve been thinking recently of sharing some of my nature-based photography with you all here. I’ve decided I’ll start with a fascination of mine - dead trees. Now, you may say “that sounds hideously boring!” And… you may be right. But not to me
Last year, I was lucky enough to get paid to travel around regional and rural areas of Queensland. On my journey, I was struck once again by the strange beauty that much of the outback has. Now, I’m not a stranger to that beauty - I lived in Charters Towers for three years (for those of you who don’t know where that is - think proper red-dirt, dry-soil, hot, hot outback in the north of Australia). Some of my fondest memories of the place are of walking up a hill near my house of an evening, and watching the sun set over the flat expanses of red soil and scrub.
The trees I saw throughout my journey last year drew my eye. They are structurally fascinating, and hold a stark beauty. So, for your enjoyment (hopefully), I’ll share one of these photos with you all - one per week.
Here’s Photo 1 - This was taken in Millmerran.
